WOW! That’s quite a long title (>_ ):]

But do you know what's even longer? The fact that we have another major site update for the first time in 1.5 months!

🔗 Share to KakaoStory, KakaoTalk, and X.

The very first thing you’ll notice since last time is that, we finally included Share to KakaoTalk and KakaoStory into our website. Since the sharing process requires us to send your information to Kakao (including your current operating system), a friendly (#_ ) will warn you first when clicking on these share buttons.

Additionally, we added another share button for X while not hiding the ones for Twitter. The new share button still redirects to twitter.com because X.com is still blocked in Indonesia.

🖼️ Rich-content oEmbed.

And the next one is probably one of the best easter eggs out there. Our oEmbed plugin finally uses rich-text content by default, which is more preferred than basic ones in most apps. If you are using WordPress (with the Gutenberg or block-based editor) to write your posts right now, you will be able to see by copy-and-pasting our links into your blog post.

Folkative, anyone?
Folkative, anyone?

But, don't expect this to appear on LinkedIn, Notion, and other common apps yet; they commonly have a whitelist of supported websites.

And one day we might build an automated tool to share blog posts from here to Instagram. With some Selenium magic, of course.

ℹ️ Embedding instructions on our share buttons.

Oh, yes, today we also let you know how to embed our blog posts when oEmbed is still not supported. Just tap on the Embed (the classic </> symbol) button to get started.

🌱 The Shift’s Digital Garden.

A digital garden is an unique place, or a unique kind of a website with content that grow like plants. It may be comparable to wiki sites, but unlike wikis, it is neither meant to be perfect especially in the case of writing, nor have for the content to be fixed like a blog post.

There are some good explanation about it in English and Indonesian.

Now, The Shift’s Digital Garden is a collection of our ideas and posts that are worth to share, but we feel it needs more time to develop before we can finally harvest into blog posts like on reinhart1010.id.

One of them is a sequel to our great system font stack, where we dropped some fonts and added new serif and monospace system font stacks. The ones on the digital garden will become the de-facto, updated version of whatever we have put here on reinhart1010.id.

Note that in digital gardens, time (of posting/publishing) does not matter. After all, unlike the blog post of the left, the contents of a digital garden doesn’t have to be structured.

🕵‍♂ Check your web browser’s compatibility!

It is our responsibility to let you know when you are using an unsupported web browser. And the best part, we won’t complain you for not using Google Chrome. To prove that your web browser is no longer recommended, we decided to add a simple test webpage to let you know.

It's very interesting to the fact that we have found an interesting Firefox bug that isn’t reproducible in other web browsers. Even when you try to force the emoji to be rendered in an outline font using CSS’ font-family (like Segoe UI Symbols, Symbola, or Noto Emoji), Firefox still renders them with the default color emoji. 🔜 What are we planning next?

As it is nearer to October 10th, aka. Reinhart’s 22th birthday, when we will launch a grand opening of our website, there are many things that we are planning to add into our website.

First, is by adding a powerful search engine into this site, supporting fuzzy search and even searching across our websites (like our new digital garden and Caps’ own blog post over Tumblr).

Next, is by adding a dedicated set of projects that we have been working on, so reinhart1010.id will become a portfolio site, too!

Next, we are currently exploring ways to share content, starting with Snapchat, and hopefully WeChat, too. We may also create a print-friendly version of our articles, so we can put a Print button on that gorgeous-looking share buttons.

The current site design looks too big when printed. Also, scrapping the share buttons will definitely saves more space.

There might be another side-quest on porting HAM to Halfmoon 2.0, which was released since about a month ago. Even before HAM, Halfmoon has become an important part of our websites, including the now-archived reinhart1010.github.io website.
